Many conventional preservatives, which are approved under the EU Cosmetics Regulation, are repeatedly criticized because they can cause skin irritations in sensitive individuals or potentially trigger allergic reactions. Therefore, lameeq employs alternative and gentle methods of preservation – without classic, listed preservatives!
lameeq has developed a multi-barrier concept since the preservation of our cosmetic products is achieved not by a single active ingredient, but through a combination of various gentle substances and formulation strategies. For example, the product’s pH value can be adjusted so that microorganisms do not find a favorable environment. In combination with water activity (aw value) and moisture-regulating ingredients, an environment is created in which bacteria and fungi can hardly proliferate. Certain humectants such as glycerin and glycols have antimicrobial properties and can help extend the shelf life of products. They deprive microorganisms of the moisture necessary for their growth, thereby keeping the product stable.
+ Why is the preservation of a cosmetic product necessary at all?
Cosmetic products that contain water or water-based ingredients provide an ideal breeding ground for microorganisms such as bacteria, mold, or yeasts. These microorganisms can not only shorten the shelf life of the product, but in the worst case, also cause skin irritations or infections. For this reason, effective preservation is essential to ensure the safety and stability of the products.
+ How are cosmetic products generally preserved?
According to the Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009, there is a list of approved preservatives that may be used in cosmetic products. These include well-known substances such as parabens, formaldehyde releasers, triclosan, and many others. Although these substances are considered safe when used in the permitted amounts, some of them have acquired a bad reputation – especially among people with sensitive skin or allergies. Additionally, more and more consumers are seeking natural, skin-friendly alternatives.
+ Are the containers (dispensers/bottles/tubes, etc.) of cosmetic products important?
Our additional, innovative method to avoid conventional preservatives is the use of special packaging systems that minimize the ingress of air and contaminants. Our special, lightproof glass airless dispenser protects the product from contamination and thereby significantly reduces the need for preservatives. Moreover, a glass container is very recyclable in terms of sustainability.

The effect! And this depends not only on the use of multiple active ingredients, but on the targeted selection of ingredients with regard to the intended use (skin condition) of the product. There are actives that can influence the efficacy of other ingredients in both directions. + Why don't lameeq skincare products have a sun protection factor?
A sun protection factor has no place in a specialized skincare product – especially when the product is intended to penetrate into deeper layers of the skin. However, since protecting the skin from UV light is very important, we have decided to apply the protection (SPF50) after skincare. Our skin protect UV can easily be applied to our care products as protection. It does not leave a greasy or sticky residue, absorbs excellently, and leaves no traces. You can even apply makeup or powder afterwards.
+ The media are now frequently talking about "biostimulators" as a new trend. Do lameeq products contain biostimulators?
Biostimulators are substances that promote bodily processes such as cell division, collagen and elastin synthesis, or the regeneration of the skin matrix. Such substances include growth factors (EGFs), retinol, bakuchiol, peptides, antioxidants, exosomes, and more. These ingredients can be considered biostimulating substances and are contained in all lameeq products.
